PECH Visit + Lantern Festival @ Lion Betty's House

A month ago, KL Unity brought approximately 14 PECH kids to watch fireworks at the MIFC, Putrajaya. Much to everyone's dismay, the view was partially blocked by trees and whatnot. Kim hatched a brilliant idea afterwards. Why not screen the fireworks in the comfort of their home?? Thus the activity took place today, 22nd September 5.30pm.

A projector, courtesy of Lion Ben Sng, was set up near a wall huge enough to project the fireworks display.

The kids gathered in the living area as they watched the dazzling displays in awe. The presentation lasted close to an hour. Not long after we packed up, a birthday cake was brought out into the living area, candles lit. Little did we know, Joshua turned 8 today!

We left PECH for awhile to have dinner and returned close to 9pm to pick up 10 kids and bring them along to the Lantern Festival party organized by Lion Betty from Lions Club of Bangsar. When we arrived, the lantern walk procession started ahead of us. We lit the lanterns as fast as humanly possible. Sadly the rest were nowhere in sight already. On a positive note, we took our own sweet time. =)

1 round around the neighborhood, we stopped at Lion Betty's house. Drinks and tit bits were handed out to the kids.

Just before we left for home, Lion Betty spoke to some of the kids and gave them inspirational words of wisdom.

"When you make it in life eventually, never forget to contribute back to society"

We reached PECH close to 11pm.

Special thanks to:
- Lion Ben Sng for the projector!
- Leo Kim for the correspondence with Bro Christopher and useful input!
- Leo Thiam Beng for the camera and transport!

Peace Poster Contest '07

So once again, we're involved in the Peace Poster Contest. The KLU Leos were responsible for registration -and it turned out there were nearly 80 participants! phew!
Organised by our sponsoring Lions Club, Lions Club of KL North, the event was a success one again!
We chatted to the participants and their parents before the contest started... and gave them goodie bags too!
Once the contest started, the Leos were each assigned to a classroom to watch over the participants for any problems (or in case their parents come to give them hints!) some of the young children were budding artists indeed!
the contest lasted about 3 hours and were divided into 3 categories according to age

at the end... we got our prize winners! congratulations to all :) and special thanks to sponsors for the goodie bags and the prizes!
ROAR!

KLU Anniversary Barbecue

16 September 2007 marks KL Unity's 12th anniversary. To celebrate the occasion, members both young and old gathered at Leo Sam's house in Damansara the night before from as early as 6pm.
While the guys were out front working to get the barbecue pit fires going, the gals were keeping busy with food preparations. The fire was quick to start and the cooking went well.
The event was also graced by 3 Lions from KL North, a Leo from KLCC as well as a number of guests who would make great additions to our KLU family. There was more than enough food to go around, and everyone got their fill.

For some strange reason which is beyond me, we do not have pictures of the 2 grills we had going, I promise you, it was definitely a barbecue! Also not available are pictures of the gorgeously barbecued chicken wings by our very own Daniel Tan, which tasted as good as they looked.

Over the past 12 years, many generations of Leos have come and gone, but it was truly a joy seeing KL Unity continue with the young new members mingling with the Lions and older Leos, some who have been with the club since the year 2000.

Happy Anniversary KL Unity!
