11th Alpha Joint Installation on the 27th August 2011.‏

Date: 27th August 2011 (Saturday)
Time: 9.30am - 1.00pm
Venue: Confucian Private School Hall, Kuala Lumpur
Members present: Leo Joshua Tan, Leo Kan Sha, Leo Yuki Tham
Lions present: Lion Ken Jern, Lion Ben, Lion Tony, Lion Raymond, Lion How, Lion Nicholas, Lion Chong, Lion Molly and two more Lions.



The Alpha Joint Installation for 10 Alpha Clubs was organized in Confucian Private Secondary School Hall. Registration started at 8.30am with Leo and Lion started to come with clubs members. G.O.H. & Lion dignitaries was waiting at the waiting room at the first floor. At 9.30am, the Joint installation officially began with the G.O.H. and Lions walking in the hall with a hand shake to the 10 Clubs president.



The event started with a banner parade by the 10 Clubs President and his representative walks up to the stage with their respective banners. The Lion dignitaries was invited up to stage to launch the event by popping the poppers.The meeting was then called to order by the presiding officer, followed by the national anthem, Leo pledge and the recognition of Lion dignitaries and Lions clubs followed suit. Welcoming address by the organizing chairman, Leo Kok Hang, and address by presiding officer, Lion Raymond.


In the Initiation ceremony, all the new members were inducted by District Chairman Leo Development, Lion Foo See Yow. Then after a speech by representative outgoing Leo President 2010-2011 by Leo Roselynn Chai. The Installation ceremony took place, where all the incoming board of directors were installed by 2nd Vice District Governor Lion Lau Teng Chye. Each clubs president was then present their club gavel by their sponsoring club president or club advisers. Finally, after all the formal handovers, 2nd Vice District Governor, Lion Lau Teng Chye gave his speech. After 2nd Vice District Governor Speech, presentation of mementos was given out to 2nd Vice District Governor, Lion Lau Teng Chye and District Chairman Leo Development, Lion Foo See Yow by presiding officer Lion Raymond. An acceptance speech by representative incoming President by Leo Yoke Yee.At about 12.00pm, the presiding officer Lion Raymond adjourned the meeting.







After the meeting adjourned, total of 5 performances prepared for the audience from different schools and a surprise birthday celebration for August babies.

Then the buffet line was serve at the school canteen for Lions, guests and Leos. The event officially ended at about 1.00pm.

2nd Omega Leo Clubs Joint Installation

Date: 20th August 2011 (Saturday)
Time: 10.00am - 1.00pm
Venue: Federal Hotel, Kuala Lumpur
Members present: Leo Joshua Tan, Leo Heng Kok Yi, Leo Tan Eong Xien, Leo Teddy, Leo Oh Kan Sha, Leo Tan Peir Ee, Leo Teh Jie Lin, Leo Soh Hoong Yih, Leo Yi Shan, Leo Yee Sin, Leo Yuki, Leo Peegy
Lions present: Lion Ken Jern




The preparation and rehearsals started ealier in the morning, at about 8.00am in Federal Hotel. At first the Banquet Hall was booked for the Joint Installation, but due to air-conditioner problems, the Skyroom was used instead. Because of the difference in size of both the floor space and the stage, the induction and installation ceremony has to be rehearsed again, thereby postponing the starting time of the event.

Leos and Lions started pouring in for the registration at about 9.30am. At about 10.30am, the Joint Installation officially began with the arrival of the Lion dignitaries. Then the meeting was called to order by the presiding officer, followed by the national anthem, Leo pledge and a speech of the organising chairman, Leo Elaine. The recognition of Lion dignitaries and Lions clubs followed suit.

The opening ceremony of the Joint Installation involved a short video, followed by several Lion dignitaries standing on stage popping the poppers. The popping of the poppers had quite a hitch as not many Lions were able to pull the trigger.


Subsequently, the banner parade involved several of the participating clubs, where the Leo president and his representative walks up to stage to present their respective banners. Then the presiding officer, Lion Soh gave an address.



In the Initiation ceremony, all the new members were inducted by Lion Foo. New members from our club included Leo Peir Ee, Leo Jie Lin, Leo Hoong Yih, Leo Yi Shan, Leo Kok Yi as well as Leo Yee Sin. Then the Installation ceremony took place, where all the incoming board of directors were sworn in to office.When the presidents were installed, District Governor Lion Ben C. Ng presented each president with their own gavel and president's badge. Then the DG witnessed the handing over of the Leo Insignia from the outgoing president to the incoming president. Finally, after all the formal handovers, the DG gave his speech.



At about 12.00pm, the presiding officer Lion Soh adjourned the meeting.

Then the buffet line was first opened to the Lions, then to the hungry Leos.


In the meanwhile, there were also 3 performances prepared for the audience, including a performance by our own Leo Eong Xien, a beatbox performance by guest Daniel, and finally 3 piano songs by Leo Spoon from KL Perennial. After lunch, there was a lucky draw and a surprise birthday celebration for August babies. The event officially ended at about 1.00pm.

Joint Project with Leo Club of Wattala City

Date: 17th August 2011 (Tuesday)
Time: 1.30pm - 7.00pm
Venue: Good Shepherd Convent, Ampang
Members present: Leo Joshua Tan, Leo Heng Kok Yi, Leo Fong Jia Yi
Lions present: Lion Nicholas Ching

2 members of Leo Club of Wattala City, as well as 2 lion members from their sponsoring club, arrived in Kuala Lumpur on Tuesday afternoon. Leo Joshua picked them up from their hotel at 1.30pm for lunch in Madam Kuan, KLCC, together with Leo Kok Yi, Leo Jia Yi and Lion Nicholas. After lunch, everyone adjourned to the main project site, Good Shepherd Convent along Jalan Hulu Kelang. The project was planned to start at 4.00pm, but due to GPS glitches, they only arrived at Good Shepherd Convent at about 5.45pm.

In Good Shepherd Convent, both Leo clubs donated clothes and stationary to the person-in-charge, Sister Salomi. A Skype session was planned with the Sri Lankan District Governor to witness the event, but was not successful due to connection problems. After the items were donated, they were given a brief tour around the convent compound.

They left the convent at about 7.00pm. Leo Joshua sent the Sri Lankans back to the hotel.

23rd “Give Blood, Save Life” Blood Donation Campaign

Date: 7th August 2011

Time: 2pm to 4pm

Venue: Thean Hou Temple, KL

Leos Present: Leo Kan Sha

Leo Hours: 1 x 2 Hours = 2 Leo Hours


Leo Kan Sha attended the Blood Donation Campaign on the 7th August held in Thean Hou Temple. The event started at 9am to 4pm. This blood donation campaign was organized by 25 Association included Lion Clubs as well. Total 11 Lions Club and 7 Leo Clubs attended for this event. They even provide free Taxi service for those who donated blood.

He were there from 2pm to 4pm and help up in the registration part. He even donated blood for this event. Donating blood is the main activity, but there is also eye screening and Chinese herb corner on stage. There were lucky draw for those who donated their blood and hamper to distribute to those who donated 30 times or more blood.

After the event ended, there were group picture with the organizing team, the blood donation first aid team. The organizer then announce total blood collected was 634 which they targeted 800 did not achieve this year.

3rd Adult IT Skills Class

Date: 20th July 2011 (Wednesday)

Leo Hours: 6 x 1.5 Hours = 9 Leo Hours

Report:
In the 3rd IT Skills Class, the participants are introduced to E-mail and Instant Messaging. First, the Leos guide them to create a Gmail account and explain each registration fields in detail. As this is their first time creating an account, it took a longer time to complete the registration. Once they are done, Leos demonstrated how to compose an e-mail, adding a subject and sending it to other participants. Then they are taught how to view incoming e-mails and replying them. As soon as they are done, the Leos briefly explained how the 'chat' or Instant Messaging function in Gmail.

Report:
For the 2nd IT Skills Class, the Leos began to teach the participants on how to surf the Internet and navigate Internet browser. They were first introduced to the concept of Internet - how it works and what equipment is required to access to Internet. Then, they are taught how to use Google and Youtube to search for information that they required. By taking Sinchew website as an example, the Leos demonstrated how a website works and how links & pages are accessed. Then, the participants are taught how to you Youtube to search for videos. The class ended with a free-and-easy session where the class are free to search for information and videos that they like.

Leo Orientation & Leadership Training

This event was organized by 4 Leo Clubs, Leo Club of KL Unity, Leo Club of SMK Jinjang, Leo Club of SMK Sultan Abdul Samad, Leo Club of Kepong.

After the registration, we began the event by the Leo Pledge recited by Leo Sue Ann of Leo Club S.MK Kepong, followed by roll call called by Leo Jin Li of Leo Club SMK Sultan Abdul Samad.

Lion Aishah was then invited to say a word or two after Lion Ken’s presentation



Lion Aishah felt that the crowd is falling asleep and she had us do the chicken dance to wake us up.


Next up, we had Lion Tony to present the Overview of the Key Officers’ Roles & Responsibility



After that, there was a 5 minutes break to setup the hall into 4 corners consisting of 4 different workshops (President, Secretary, Treasurer and Director), , each taking one corner to present detailed information on roles and responsibilities of the respective positions.

After the breakout session, the Leos were then gathered in the middle again for another presentation on how to carry out projects by Lion Tan Teoh.




Before we wrap up the training session, we wanted to make sure the participants were listening to the trainers, so we invited Lion Ben to come up with some quizzes to test the Leos. Prizes were given to those we got it right.In total there were 20 prizes given out to 20 who got them right.Before the meeting was adjourned, Certificates of attendance were given out.

At 1pm the Orientation and training session ended and lunch was prepared by The GoldHill Club.Tiring day for the organizers and trainers, but knowing so many Leos benefited from the program, this is definitely a successful and wonderful project carried out.
