After the first series of IT Skills Class with kids from Sungai Way, some of the adult ladies from the area were interested in the classes. They made a request to us to teach them some basic computing skills and Internet-related knowledge such as using e-mail, Facebook and searching. Thus, we arranged a one-month crash course starting on the 6th of July.

The first class was taught/facilitated by 5 Leos, most of us coming straight after work without our vests. To kick off with the class, we taught the participants the basics of computing, beginning with computer hardware such as CPU, monitor, keyboard and mouse. Then we proceeded to the basics of Windows, such as navigating around the desktop, double-click, start button, right click, minimize, maximize and close window. It was a different experience compared to the classes we did 2 months ago as the participants have little or no experience with a computer.

Once done with the basics, we opened up a Microsoft Word document and got them to type. This exercise was done to help the participants familiarize with the keyboard, although it proved harder than we expected.

By the time it's around 9.30pm, we wrapped up the class and taught them the final lesson - how to shut-down. After which, we took a group photo and said our goodbyes.

The next class we will start teaching them how to use the Internet and search through Google. Let's see where this takes us.
