LEO ORIENTATION 2016/2017

JOINT PROJECT OF KL UNITY & SMK JINJANG

VENUE: THE UNIVERSITY OF NOTTINGHAM MALAYSIA CAMPUS

Leo Club of KL Unity together with Leo Club of SMK Jinjang jointly organizing our once a year Leo Orientation 2016 at THE UNIVERSITY OF NOTTINGHAM MALAYSIA CAMPUS.

The event started at 9.30am which grace by our Guest of Honour, 1st Vice District Governor District 308B1, Lion Richard Ho togther with 7 Lions from our sponsoring Lion Club, Lions Club of KL North. Participants Leo Club are from Leo club of Taman Bukit Maluri, Leo Club of KL City Center and Leo club of KL Central.

We had Leo school for the Newly appointed of Key Officers, Board of Directors as well as for the members on their role and responsibilities and get ready for the New Term 2016/2017 at their respective clubs.

The participants commented that it was very knowledgeable and they were able to understand their respective role in their club and have requested to continue this in the upcoming year as well.

4th KL Omega Leo Clubs Joint Installation 2013

Date : 22^nd September 2013

Venue: Multi-Purpose Hall of INTI International University, Nilai

Time: 02.00 pm – 05.00 pm

Leos and Lions started pouring in for the registration at about 2pm. At about 2.45pm, the Joint Installation officially began with the arrival of the Lion dignitaries. 

KL Unity was in-charge of registration 

Then the meeting was called to order by the presiding officer, followed by the national anthem, Leo pledge and a speech of the organizing chairman, Leo Ho Li Fen. The recognition of Lion dignitaries and Lions clubs followed suit.

Subsequently, the banner parade involved several of the participating clubs, where the Leo president and his representative walk up to stage to present their respective banners. Then the presiding officer, Lion Colleen Teoh gave an address.

In the Initiation ceremony, all the new members were inducted by 2^nd VDG Dato’Dr L.Krishnan. New members from our club included Leo May Yee and Leo Wan Chern.

Then the Installation ceremony took place, where all the incoming board of directors were sworn in to office. When the presidents were installed, 1^st VDG Lion Lim Hoe Guan presented each president with their own gavel and president's badge. Then the 1^st VDG witnessed the handing over of the Leo Insignia from the outgoing president to the incoming president. Finally, after all the formal handovers, the 1^st VDG gave his speech. 

At about 4.30pm, the presiding officer Lion Colleen Teoh adjourned the meeting. A group photo was taken after that. There was a lucky draw involved in the meanwhile. The event officially ended at about 5.00pm. 

Twinning Community Service Joint Project at Old Folks home

During our trip to attending our sister Club, Leo Club of Tanjung, Penang Club & Twinning Anniversary dinner. Both clubs agreed to do a joint project community service the next day, 18^th of August 2013 at theLotus Old Folks Home, Penang. 

The project begins with sweeping of the garden area and also wiping the house windows. After finishing with the garden area, it was time to entertain the old folks in their homes. There were two floors of old folks staying in which all of us decided to entertain them with some mandarin songs. 

Food was provided for the old folks and the extra were offer to the Leo’s as well. During the Lunch hour, KL Unity Leo’s were able to spend some chatting moment with the olds folks there. We all notices there were many of the old folk’s children and grandchildren visited their parent/grandparent during Lunch hours too. 

The Project ended at 1pm and KL Unity Members left and travel back to KL with a Happy Feeling of doing community service with Twinning Sister Club, Leo Club of Tanjung, Penang together at the Old Folks Home. 

Leo Club of Sultan Abdul Samad Leo Rooms Renovation

Date: 12^th August 2013

Time: 10.00a.m. – 07.00p.m.

Venue: SMK Sultan Abdul Samad

The Leo Club of Sultan Abdul Samad renovated their Leo Room with new coat of paint and some second hand furniture.

 It was the second day of the Leo Room renovation and we were there to help out the Leo’s.

Our sponsoring Club Lion Club of KL North, IPP Lion Tony, Lion President Richard, 1st Vice President Lion Helena and Leo Advicer Lion Kit were there to help out with the painting too.

30 Hour Famine DIY Camp by KL Leo Clubs

Date: 13^rd July – 14^th July 2013

Venue: SJK (C) Chen Moh, Petaling Jaya

Attendance: 8 Members

This year, 7 Omega Leo clubs jointly organized this meaningful fund raising event which was spearheaded by Leo Maggie from Leo Club of KL Unity. The 7 Omega Leo Clubs include Leo Club of KL Unity, Leo Club of Southern Cross, Leo Club of KLCC, Leo Club of KL Perennial, Leo Club of Damansara, Leo Club of City West, and Leo Club of KDU College.

The total number of participants for this event was 149, where 11 of them are the main committees, 28 volunteers, and 110 campers. 

We also managed to get a list of generous sponsors to support the event, namely the camp site venue itself, SJK (C) Chen Moh, for their partial sponsor of the hall, Five Arts Center for their greeting cards for goodies, Trilix Concept for banner and buntings, Touch Print Sdn Bhd for the printings of name tags, Junior Chamber International (JCI Mines) for cash sponsorship of RM 300 and also Mr How Pak Kong for cash sponsorship of RM 240.

The DIY camp is a 2 days 1 night event where campers fast from day 1 10am till day 2 4pm. In between fasting, campers get to play some games and also get to watch some videos regarding the poverty in third world country. Participants will have an opportunity to get a first-hand simulated experience of living life in dire conditions through various Famine Challenges and educational movies.

Aside from the sponsors listed, the camp was also attended by a couple of local celebrities and performers which include:

and also two local beatbox performers Tuxbonic and ABeatC to show their support to the movement.

The total funds raised from the participants are amounted to RM 12,559.80, which were all projected to World Vision to support the needy.

At the end of the fasting period, our DIY Camp break-fast together in the 30-Hour Famine centralised Countdown event at Stadium Putra Indoor Stadium, Bukit Jalil. 

The countdown event was jointly attended by all campers across the nation where it accumulated to 20,000 people on that day. The event was attended by a huge number of local singers and DJs. 

The highlight for the day would be the appearance of the Taiwanese Singer Christine Fan for the countdown of the break-fasting after 30 hours of starvation.
