DURIAN MANIA 2.0 2014 FUND RAISING PROJECT

On a nice Thursday afternoon, 17th July 2014, Leo Club of SMK Sultan Abdul Samad organised a fund raising project, 

Durian Mania 2.0. This is the 2nd consecutive year that its being organised to raise fund by selling durians as it was the durian season throughout Malaysia. This project by the alpha leos was a great success as it had full support from their school principal, Mrs. Saras, teacher advisors, members, Lions Club of K.L North, Leo Club of SMK USJ 13, Lions Club of Bukit Kiara, Lions Club of Taman Tun as well as the school's students, teachers and parents. 

They sold durians, mangosteens which came all the way from Raub, Pahang. To add the excitement they sold durian flavoured coffees as well. It was held at the basket ball of their school. Musang King durian was sold at the price of RM 18 per kg whereas D24 durian was sold for RM 6 per kg. Mangosteen was at the price of RM 4 per kg and the durian coffees were sold at RM 22.50 for each box. 

The project started about 2.00 pm and ended about 5.00 pm. At the end of the day, the leos managed to sell 600kg of durians and 34 boxes of durian coffees. Their net profit was about RM 2,000 which is more than they gained the previous year. Hope this project would be organised successfully throughout the coming years.

Shah Alam Trees for Life 2014

Date: 21^st June 2014

Venue: Taman Tasik Kota Kemuning, Seksyen 31, Shah Alam

Time: 8.00 am – 12.00 pm

Leo Kan Sha attended the Shah Alam Trees for Life event organized by MBSA and also Eco Worries Malaysia. There are about 1000 volunteers at the Taman Tasik Kota Kemuning participate in this event. 

A total of 1500 trees have been planted around Taman Tasik Kota Kemuning, Seksyen 31, Shah Alam which means more shades on Earth! Joining in together with Eco Warriors Malaysia, Leo Kan Sha and two others managed to plant 5 small plants and help others too.  The event ended at 12pm and Leo Kan Sha was glad to meet some new friends in this Tree planting activity. 

Fire Prevention Awareness Campaign

Date: 19^th April 2014

Venue: Lecture Theater B, Inti International University, Nilai

Time: 10am to 1pm

On the 19^th of April 2014, Leo Club of Southern Cross and INTI International University organized a Fire Prevention Awareness Campaign. The workshop started at 10am Roll Call and also welcoming speech from District Governor, Lion Lau Teng Chye.

The half a day workshop was presented by the Fire Department of Negeri Sembilan officer which the purpose of the workshop is to create public awareness and understanding causes that led to fire occurrences. They explained the different type of Fire Extinguish and the proper usage of it, action need to be taken when the fire alarm rings and also when Fire happen at home or workplace.

This workshop is very good as it will inform the public with the necessary knowledge to prevent different type of fire tragic incident from happening.

Right after the workshop, there’s a small demo from Bomba officer outside the Lecturer Hall.

The event ended at 12pm with a group picture. 

Single Mother Project – It’s A Makeover

Date: 23^rd March 2014

Venue: Rumah Caring. Kajang

Time: 3.00 pm – 5.00 pm

Attendance:  Leo May Yee

It was jointly organized by Lion Helena from Lions Club of KL North and TonyMoly Cosmetic. 

The makeover was done at Rumah Caring, Kajang with 30 single mothers. On that day 3 ladies was selected to do a makeover through makeup (TonyMoly), hairstyling (Ms. Chris) and manicure (Leo May Yee). Three of them were invited to help out with the makeover. 

The makeover was a huge success as 3 of them look younger and confident with their new look.

Community Service at Old Folks Home

Date : 6^th September 2013

Venue : Pusat Rawatan Tradional Darul Hanan

Time : 09.00 am – 11.30 am

On the 6^th Of September 2013, Lions Club of Kota Bharu organized a visit trip to an Old Folk Home at Kota Bharu, together with their sponsor Clubs, Leo Club of SMK Chung Cheng and also Omega Leo Club of Kota Bharu Central.

The project started at 9am, with the Old Folks home person in-charge gave his welcoming speech and also Lion Club of Kota Bharu President, Lion Francis Lim. The Lions and Leo then started busy packing the goodies for the old folks while light refreshment was served.  

In conjunction with Hari Raya celebration, Lion Club of Kota Bharu offering free health checks which include blood pressure check and also eye check with free reading spectacle for the old folks there.  The Leo’s at the mean time helped up with clean-up of the old folk house area by picking rubbish.

After the Health Check and clean-up project ended, there was closing speech by OC Lion Dr. Chua Sim Son. The free goodies were then distributed out to the old folks by the Lions and Raya notes too. Lunch was served and the project ended at 11.30am. 

Tree Planting with Eco Warriors at Sungai Renggam

Date   : 26^th February 2011 (Sunday)

Time   : 8:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m.

Venue  : Sungai Renggam, Shah Alam

Once again MPSA organized a tree planting activity at Sungai Renggam, Shah Alam. It was the second planting activity in that area which was last held in September 2011. Leo Kan Sha together with Sister Club, Leo Club of Sultan Abdul Samad, Leo May Yee attended this event by joining with Eco Warriors. The event started with Mr. Moothy, the organizing person; organized 10 plots for every group of organization, colleges and other company who attending this tree planting. Before start of planting the Tree, there was a small demo from one of the participants on the proper way of planting tree. 

 

After an hour of planting 30 trees, it was time to stop and go back to the meeting point.

Shah Alam Mayor Dato’s Haji Mohd Jaafar, gave his speech after the tree planting activity and light refreshment was serve.

 

 The event ended at 12.30pm.

District 308 B1 Youth Essential Skill Camp 2011

Date : 8^th December 2011- 11^th December 2011

Venue: Kem Bina Semangat, Kuala Kubu Baru

The 4-day-3-night YES Camp was organized by the Lions Club International District 308-B1 and it was led by the Organizing Chairperson, Lion Lim Meng Sheng, assisted by DG Lion Dr Ben C.Ng, Lion Denny Lim, Lion Wong Chooi Chen, Lion Ching Qwee Fong, Lion Sashekala and Lion Mei Lin. There were 12 facilitators from the Omega Leo Clubs in District 308-B1.Total of 114 campers participated in LION YES CAMP 2011. The objective of this camp was to develop youth essential skills and life values for the campers.
 All campers arrived in the campsite at about 10.00 am on Thursday morning, and the camp officially began at 11.00 am during the opening ceremony by Lion Lim Meng Sheng and DG Lion Dr Ben C.Ng. Throughout the whole camp, the Organizing Committee focused on the 12 essential keys/values, and conducted 4 separate presentation sessions, with each session tackling 3 different keys. Lion Dr. Ben, Lion Ching and Lion Sashekala were responsible for presenting the various keys throughout the sessions. There were also outdoor activities and team building games to bring the campers closer, and also inculcate some of these values in them in the process. The campers had a lot of fun as they were exposed to outdoor activities such as 'Flying Fox', 'Obstacle Course' and 'Rafting'.

Leo Kan Sha & Leo Maggie was assigned as group facilitator for group 5 & group 6 respectively. Leo Kan Sha take charge of the session light exercise and Leo Maggie take charge in the Team Building games.  A group facilitator is charged to oversee the progress of the group, as well as maintaining order in the group. The event officially ended on the 11th December at 1.00pm, after the closing ceremony. The campers left from the campsite at 2.00pm.

Tree Planting @ Sungai Renggam, Shah Alam

Date: 25^th September 2011 (Sunday)

Time: 8.30am – 1.00pm

Venue: Sungai Renggam, Shah Alam

Members present: Leo Kok Yi, Leo Peir Ee, Leo Jie Lin, Leo Maggie, Leo Joshua, Leo Teddy, Leo Kan Sha.

On cloudy Sunday morning, KLU participated in a tree planting project organized by Eco Warriors and MBSA sponsored by Maxis.

Before we began to plant, we were thought how to do it: 

- First clear the hole dug previously to put the sapling in. 

- Second fill up the hole with soil and make sure it doesn’t exceed the height of the roots as the root flare need to breathe. 

- Then compress the soil to hold everything together and put fertilizers around the tree. 

- Lastly, put a tree guard around the tree to protect from wind.

There were more than 400 volunteers and a total of 1800 trees planted.

 In total we managed to plant 10 trees on that day. It was a meaningful and joyous experience for us.

  

 

 

 

Now that we know how to plant a tree and what is required, we will plan to plant more trees in the future.
